In March 2022, I had dinner with my dear friend, Elizabeth, and shared a little bit about the struggles I was experiencing with IVF and my intense writer’s block. I told her that the pandemic robbed me of a vital creative outlet to process my losses: performance.
Since we both feel called to bring stories to life that address difficult topics, by the end of that dinner we were making plans for my formal solo piece about an issue I didn’t even want to say out loud at the time...infertility.
The solo piece we talked about over dinner that night became SPADURA, a one woman comedy show about a love story set against the baby industrial complex. It tackles Black maternal health, fertility and IVF with tons of humor!
SPADURA won several awards and recognition in its first run, including the United Solo’s 2023 Best One Woman Show and Best Production and DC Theatre Art’s “Best of Fringe Award.” This year, we’re expanding our reach - more shows around the country and a recording of the show as a comedy special in September!
We are filming the comedy special for SPADURA on October 12! We are raising funds to offset the costs. Every share and every dollar counts! For more information and to contribute, please click link above.
Your support is so appreciated AND NECESSARY!! Much love. Thank you!!
